CHAPTER 25

Deepak goes to US

After two years, one day, Deepak was getting ready to go to US for treatment. He was packing his suitcase.

Shermi said, “I can’t stay without you even for one day. I don’t know how I am going to spend the days while you are in the US. You finish all your jobs and come back quickly.”

Deepak said, “True. But I am going on a business tour. It will take one month. At the same time, I will also go to the doctor for a checkup. If the doctor says so, I might have to stay there for another 15 days or so.”

Shermi was very disappointed. “What doctor? You just finish your business tour and come back. That’s enough.”

Deepak came near her and held her hands. “Don’t say that. You know, if the doctor does the operation, I will become a complete man.”

Shermi shook her head. “I want you, your love. That’s enough for me. You just come back soon.”

“I wanted to take you with me. But I have to go to many places. That’s why I decided to take you next time.”

Shermi said, “No problem.”

Shermi packed his suitcase for him.

Deepak asked, “Tell me what you want me to bring for you.”

“Do I lack anything here? You have given me everything I want. Money, gold, dresses, everything. Shall I tell you something? I have lost interest in all these material things.”

Deepak was shocked. “How can you say so?”

Shermi said, “Whatever I want, you get for me immediately. One loses interest in what one has in plenty. One is always interested in what one does not get.”

Deepak closed his suitcase. He hugged Shermi and kissed her. She closed her eyes and took the kiss coldly. Deepak went down the stairs to the waiting car. He waved to her. She waved back. Tears appear in her eyes.
